FITBODY Pink™ Breast Cancer Family Scholarship

The FITBODY Pink™ Breast Cancer Family Scholarship supports college-bound students whose families have been impacted by breast cancer and whose experiences have helped shape their perspective, character, and goals as they prepare for higher education.

This scholarship recognizes that a breast cancer diagnosis often affects the entire family—emotionally, financially, and logistically—during a pivotal stage in a student’s life. Our goal is to support students who have shown resilience, taken on added responsibility, and continued moving forward academically while navigating family challenges. A parent or guardian does not need to be in active treatment for a student to qualify.

Scholarship Purpose

This scholarship is intended for students who have been personally affected by breast cancer within their immediate family and who can thoughtfully reflect on how that experience has influenced:

  • their outlook on education
  • their sense of responsibility or maturity
  • their resilience, leadership, or commitment
  • their future academic or career goals

The scholarship is not awarded based on hardship alone, but on growth, character, and forward momentum.

Why This Scholarship Was Created

The FITBODY Pink™ Breast Cancer Family Scholarship was created from lived experience.

Julie Lohre was first diagnosed with breast cancer during the fall of her son’s senior year of high school—a season already defined by college applications, decisions, and transition. During his sophomore year of college, she received a second primary breast cancer diagnosis.

Breast cancer doesn’t pause life. Recovery happened alongside parenting, planning, and the responsibility of staying strong for my family—even when I didn’t feel strong at all.

Watching my child step into the next chapter after everything our family had faced reminded me how deeply a breast cancer diagnosis affects not just one person, but everyone who loves them.

Experiencing cancer alongside the college journey revealed how deeply a diagnosis impacts not only the patient, but the entire family—especially during moments when students are stepping into independence. This scholarship exists to support students navigating that same intersection of family health challenges and educational goals.
